Within the high, impenetrable walls of Fort Omen, harsh and cluttered voices rang out through the halls. The US military - or at least, part of what was left of it on Srezia - was stationed here in one of the last military structures left standing after the Cataclysm. In one of the specialist departments called the Vanguard, a general stood in front of an assembly of soldiers to address them.
"ATTENTION!"
"Sir, yes, sir!"
"Listen closely! Your orders are to maintain this position as effectively as possible, and act as a spearhead for the re-establishment of order, dominance, control, and authority for any survivors in the area. Understood?"
"Sir, yes, sir!"
"We cannot sit idle in this Fort forever, soldiers. There are threats to our safety and authority here, as you all know. Your mission is to obtain data on individuals and groups with confidential information concerning this Fort, or with the intent to do us harm. We have reason to believe that we will be in increased danger if we do not act immediately."
The man debriefing his soldiers went into detail concerning many of the groups of survivors who may pose a threat to the Fort. The new bounty hunting group known as the Creed, the opportunistic Sa'Kage dustmen, the swarms of raiders, former military and para-military units, fugitives, and other threats were on the loose and in direct opposition to military authority. The Fort was their only base of operations, and they would have to defend it with steadfast determination. Ironically enough, some of the most significant dangers of the post-Cataclysmic world didn't threaten the Fort's safety, but the most severe threats had come from within the Fort itself...
"We will commence operations shortly. You will be expected to stand by for further instructions and be prepared at any moment. Your lieutenants will debrief you for your specifically assigned missions. Dismissed!"
