The Terror's Massacre

The beasts would keep the pressure on not really paying any heed to the evac, they pressed their attack and focused on the machine guns.

About half of the group of raiders remained in the encampment. Over the horizon, two large carrier helicopters approached quickly. They looked like military aircraft which had been scavenged and rebuilt with scrap supplies, but they were still mobile even after being reconstructed crudely.

The machine-gun nest was finally overrun after Steele and his men could no longer keep the beasts away from it, and the machine-gunners would be ripped apart. Their last defense would be down - but only for a few vulnerable moments. Steele made his way into the swarmed bunker, beating ghouls out of the way, but he was too late to save his gunners. He made his way to the heavy weaponry which was mounted inside, and he pulled one of the massive, portable gatling guns off of its mounting. Its barrel began to spin, and he held it close by his side as bullets began to fly out and he mowed down the rest of the ghouls nearby. He made his way outside and gave orders for the RPG launchers to finish off what beasts they could, and then take aim for the fuel supplies near the barricade walls as he regrouped his men and got them all prepared at the corner where they would be evac'd.

An RPG was launched from one of the watchtowers, streaking down towards a large fuel tank, which instantly caught alight and exploded. It set half of the camp on fire and blocking most of the beasts from being able to enter through their first breach. Steele knew that the place was rigged to explode - if he and his men couldn't have the supplies that they had stockpiled here, then no one would. He was determined to take down as many of the beasts as he could before he left what he had called his home since the Cataclysm.

Some ghouls were caught in the blast of fire from the explosion and burnt to death, adding to the many of them lying dead on the ground. The beasts were only slightly singed by the explosion but the turret made them move. The terror order the beasts out, they were to valuable to risk losing once he saw the aircraft moving in. The ran and jumped over one of the wall. The Ghouls remained.

As the beasts withdrew, the remaining raiders focused on clearing out the ghouls. There were only over a dozen raiders left now, including their commander, Steele. There were enough ghouls to be a threat, but the raiders were able to hold them off while the helicopters approached and hovered over the camp.

Each helicopter dropped a sturdy chain and rope ladder down below which nearly touched the ground near the back of the raider group. While the choppers waited a few feet above the ground for the raiders to begin climbing up and loading themselves in, Steele and the last few remaining raiders held the rest of the ghouls off. Within a few seconds, the choppers were almost completely loaded, and Steele was one of the last raiders on the ground. Some of his most loyal men urged him to hurry, but he wouldn't budge yet.

"GET TO ZE CHOPPAH!!!"

He shouted, ordering them to load themselves onto the helicopter before him. Finally, once the last of the surviving raiders had made it to the chopper, Steele pulled the pin on a grenade and chucked it into the swarm of ghouls sprinting at him. He knew that, even with the grenade, the ghouls would inevitably swarm him and then be able to reach the helicopters if he took enough time to climb all the way in while the helicopters were still close to the ground. He yelled his orders for take-off to the pilots, who reluctantly agreed and the helicopters began to rise up and gain altitude as Steele sprinted behind them, away from the ghoul horde.

He had emptied the ammo in the gatling gun, and the only useful weapon left on the battlefield was a scrapped RPG launcher. He grabbed it up off the ground and slung it over his shoulder as he ran - he knew he would need it. The ghouls were closing in on him, and he had only a split second left to leap into the air and grip the last rung of the rope ladder from the last evac helicopter.

Some of the ghouls may be able to jump up and reach Steele or the ladder if they were quick enough.

One of the last Ghouls in the fort ran and would try and jump to grab steele's foot and drag him back down it would snarl and snap its jaws at him

Steele would snarl right back at the ghoul, completely unintimidated by it. As he hung onto the rope ladder, his only chance of survival, he kicked the ghoul directly in the face, stomping it down and knocking it to the ground with his boot. The helicopter quickly began to gain speed and lift up into the air several yards, and Steele smirked as he pulled the RPG launcher off his shoulder and aimed it directly at the ghoul below him.

"Nice try, motherfucker."

He launched one RPG, which exploded beneath him and cleared out the rest of the ghouls trying to make it to the helicopters. As he balanced himself on the rope ladder and pulled himself up, Steele loaded another rocket. He shot it at the last remaining fuel supply, setting the rest of the encampment ablaze and destroying it with a massive burst of flames. Finally, he loaded his last rocket, and as the chopper spun around and began to glide over the horizon, Steele aimed it directly at the desert terror sitting atop the mesa watching him. He launched it, watching the rocket streak across the sky towards the terror. He then dropped the RPG launcher, letting it fall to the ground as he glared and flipped the terror a middle finger.

The terror would lift its arm to block its face and move back quickly. It would hit but would only scar and burn the terror, not kill it or impede its ability to fight. The terror snarled at him and roared "One day......find you...kill you.....wastelands mine!"

Steele climbed up the rope ladder in midair as the helicopters headed southwest. His men reached down and helped him climb in, and he rolled into the cabin of the chopper. As he slid the door shut behind him, he stood up, cracked his knuckles, and glared out the window.

"Yeah. Sure. Good luck, you scaley bitch. I'll see you in hell."

With that, the helicopters soared off into the sky and disappeared from sight, leaving the ruined raider camp behind in flames.
